Guys,

The issues with slimserver 6.5 appear to run beyond just iTunes.

First, i got confirmation from the helpful folks at Slim Devices that
slimserve5 6.5 uses iTunes volume levelling tags before it uses
ReplayGain tags (e.g., APEv2). 

Do you know how slimserver interacts with files that were created by
Windows Media Player, using its volume leveling option?  I have some
files that were ripped with it and they seem to be causing me
problems.

-- they have no iTunNorm tag
-- they have no ReplayGain information (according to tagging software
like MP3Tag and Foobar 2000)
-- and yet SlimServer reports large problematic volume adjustment
values such as -14.44

Where slimserver getting these values?
