I looked again at the thread with DeWayne (last post 12/27) and realized there were more pages I didnt see before. I tried implementing the DeWayne solution (editing flac2mp3.pl to gives paths for flac.exe and lame.exe) I was successful with version 2.9 after I got errors with version 2.7.
Two additional pointers that would be helpful to novices: 1. The paths for flac.exe and lame.exe in flac2mp3.pl must be in Dos 8.3 format. This is documented in the Windows XP installation instructions given at your web site, but the example you gave in the first page of your exchange with DeWayne (thread started 12/20, last post 12/27) gave an example that threw me off completely---it did not include double back slashes, and it was not Dos 8.3 format. On page 2 of the DeWayne exchange you corrected yourself with respect to the double back slashes. I had assumed that version 2.9 allowed for long file names. I suggest putting a comment in the flac2mp3.pl file noting the correct format for windows xp. 2. flac2mp3.pl cannot be edited and saved on plain text format. Is there a way to save it in the correct format using a standard editor (word or notepad)? To be safe, I downloaded a perl editor (perl express 2.5). I expect there is a save option in word that would give the correct format, but I have no idea what it might be. I suggest modifying the Windows XP installation instructions to indicate how edit and save the flac2mp3.pl file in the correct format. If not for that problem, I would have gotten the program to work the first time around. Also: Based on my experience yesterday (see my earlier post), I think there is a problem with putting lame.exe and flac.exe in the path. Those instructions did not work for me. I suggest you not suggest that solution---it just wasted a lot of time, and the other solution is easy (with the right editor) and is a better one. While I got my test to work, the program output said only 2 flac files were found when there were in fact 3. However, all 3 files did get processed. Thanks for making this program available. I expect it will save me a lot of time and effort.
