If you're using ReplayGain to normalize the audio, what really happens is that an album normalization number and a track normalization number are stored in the tags of the audio file. No bits are changed in this process other than the tags, so you're not changing the ripped audio at all.
If you're normalizing in a different way, you might be degrading your audio.
