Hardware primarily.  The Squeezebox is designed as a 2-channel playback
device, AC3/Dolby Digital is primarily a 5.1-channel playback format.

Of course, there is such a thing as 2-channel AC3.

Beyond that, it isn't exactly DRM, it's licensing.  An AC3/Dolby
Digital decoder carries a licensing cost that would have to be passed
on to the end user.
