You can browse by genre (say classical), then artist (say Beethoven)
then album (Symphony No. 5, Karajan) easily enough - this is the
built-in funtionality.  I don't understand how you're not getting what
you describe.

I personally use lots of different classical genres first (e.g.
Orchestral), but that's just me.  As far as I can see, genre (or
artist) browsing should suit you fine.  What am I missing?  (I agree on
the album browse though - useless!)

BTW if you Rockbox your iPod you can then browse the files directly
(and play FLACs), which clearly is the way forwards ;)
