Well, form follows function I suppose. Its GUI is fine for my needs,
but I can see how it might be intimidating to some. The wiki  posted
here makes it less painful.

If your cd's are for the most part ripped, then it's safe to assume
subsequent rips will be of pristine discs, in which case any number of
freely available tools could have alleviated your EAC paranoia just as
effectively-- IMO of course.
