I still think something's wrong with your command-line arguments. You say the window comes up and disappears. If the FLAC encoder was working, you'd see the encoding progress. Even on the very fastest processors, that will take 20 seconds or more.
You might want to monitor CPU load at the same time. If it really is encoding, the CPU load will increase considerably.
