The vast majority would agree exactly with what autopilot says. 

For me the main reason to rip to FLAC is to have a safe, backed-up,
lossless copy of the original CD. I do use FLAC for SB3 streaming, but
the 192kbps MP3 conversions that I use for my portable player could
just as easily be used with the SB3. 

The key though is to start with lossless data and keep it safe, then
you can do anything you want with it. If you haven't started off with a
lossless format, you can never get it back.
