FLAC has native SB support so things like FF/REW work better (though see elsewhere here.. some people hate the way they work anyway, myself, I never use them....) and is still lossless.
But you wouldnt want FLAC (or even apple lossless) on your ipod: you're not likely to hear subtle nuances with the lossless format on cheap earbuds and even more importan lossless files will take more space and on disk-based ipods more drive acessses (ie, lower battery life).
