The handling of errors varies from drive to drive, which is why
overriding the drives C2 reporting is a good idea. Then, rather than
relying on the drive to tell EAC when to go back and re-read, it simply
reads each sector twice and doesn't move on until they match. 

To test, you could try un-checking the 'drive is capable of reporting
c2 errors' box under the Secure Mode options for both drives, and then
see how they compare.
