Interesting discussion guys. I have been concerned for a while about leaving my PC on 24x7 just to run Slimserver. Here in the UK, my electricity costs are far higher - I have just paid a bill at £0.154 per kWh for the first 207 kWh used in a qtr, dropping to £0.080 after that. At todays exchange rates that is $0.30 / $0.16!!
I have a Powermeter and my Dell desktop idles at about 105w consumption rising to 130-140w when doing useful work. I have setup the PC to go into Standby after 20 mins idle time and the consumption drops to 3w. My squeezeboxes use Wake On Lan to get the PC restarted which only takes a few seconds. The SBs feed directly into Cyrus Linkpower amps, which sense the input signal and turn themselves into a v low power mode when the music stops, which is neat. The only problems with this setup are: - The Wake On Lan on my Transporter doesnt work properly (please vote for the bug if this affects you. ( http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5092 ) - I lose the clock and alarm features of the squeezebox, which is a shame. It would be great if the SB were to have the option to connect to Squeezenetwork if it lost the connection to Slimserver. SN could then continue the clock and alarm functions Nigel -- NigelC ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NigelC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2101 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26451
