I noticed I could name the players, which is nice. I'm really impressed that Slim Devices has created such a powerful server and has made it open source. (I'm also surprised that they're connected with Logitech, since, in my experience, Logitech never seems to go that extra mile to take a "normal" product and make it great -- I'm guessing Logitech is either a parent company or mainly the distributor?)
I figure I don't need fine control over the stream in some cases, such as when I'm in the yard working (I don't know if any MP3 players have wifi and can play streams, but that would be nice), or in the garage working on my car or out on the porch. In cases like that, it's easy to set the music up before I go outside, or I might get a Nokia 770 or some other handheld device to control Slimserver. I figure the Squeezeboxes I get will mainly be for inside, where I would want to sync music and would be more likely to stay for a while and want to change what I'm listening to. I looked into a lot of this before deciding what to buy. While I wasn't sure about everything, the more I looked at Slim Devices, the more open I felt the system was so I could modify it to my needs. While, as I talk about adding other devices, it may sound like I'm avoiding paying for Squeezeboxes, in the long run, Slim Devices is getting business from me because I can make choices in what I do and what I add on. I avoided Roku because I felt it was too limited and Sonos because some of the prices were absurd ($400 for a remote that's a souped up PDA when many PDAs with wifi are only $200 or so? Absurd!) (Although I'm the first to admit that if the prices dropped on Squeezeboxes, I'd be quick to add more to my house!) -- HalNineThousand ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HalNineThousand's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12392 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37113 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
