Here's what I did: 1) Ripped CD with EAC to flac (using freedb rather than musicbrainz for initial names) 2) Tagged with Musicbrainz Picard (by manual search rather than acoustic fingerprinting/PUID). While I really don't like putting the composer in the artist field, I went with the flow and let Picard do its stuff. 3) The tagger wanted to insert Cyrillic characters for Tchaikovsky (Пётр Ильич Чайковский), Prokofiev (Сергей Сергеевич Прокофьев) & Rachmaninoff (Сергей Васильевич Рахманинов). Windows didn't seem to like that, so I had the Musicbrainz changes saved only to the Tag but not the filename. 4) Then I used mp3tag v2.39 to change the Cyrillic characters back to standard script. As far as I can tell, there is no trace of Cyrillic characters in the main or extended tabs nor in the filename. (At least not visible through mp3tag or winamp). 5) Added to SlimServer 6.5.4 (Mac OS 10.4.10). 6) Now the strange part. Played the tracks on SB2. Sounds great, but no artist i.e. composer displayed on the VFD only for these 3 composers. I went to the web interface, and the list of tracks from the album shows Cyrillic characters! But when I click on the link, the Artist field in track details are in Roman Script.
Where does SlimServer get these cyrillic characters from? Is there a hidden tag? And why is it not one or the other uniformly - Cyrillic in the track list, but Roman in the track details? Any ideas? P.S.... Slightly OT, 1) Is there any consensus or guideline for tagging classical music that is preferred by members?I would like having separate tags for COMPOSER, ORCHESTRA/BAND/ENSEMBLE, CONDUCTOR, SOLOISTS, SCALE, TEMPO, etc ... 2) Does anyone have experience with tagging Indian classical music? We have the Artist(s), the Ragas (the framework for the composition - like a western scale but more defined), Talas (tempos and rhythm), and the name of the composition. -- Nikhil ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nikhil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39007 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
