If you choose to use MP3, use VBR. It gives much higher quality for
the ave number of bits it uses. I found that the highest quality VBR
usually used no more than 225-250Kb/s vs. 320Kb/s CBR. Having said
that, I found that the PMM was not the best ripper in the world. Many
of my bad disks blew threw on PMM with pops/clicks throughout. If you
have the stomach to work through the setup, I recommend a better
program such as the EAC/LAME combo.

As Pat mentioned, FLAC is probably the best option due to perfect
quality, but it is a little less compatible with portable players and
obviously takes up more space on them. The primary benefit is that
you'll never have to rip again since it is lossless. But, this usually
drives people to maintain 2 collections (1 FLAC and 1 MP3 or other
compatible with portable players). If this all sounds like a headache
to you, then I recommend simply using MP3 high-quality VBR for now.
