It's only "overboard" if the space is not used!

The 6x250Gb drives is my old array. It was in RAID5 so was about 1.2TB.

THe 8x500GB drives are my new array. It's currently in RAID6 and is
around 2.7TB total.

The 6x400GB USB drives I bought to use as backup for my main library.

I've commissioned an OpenSolaris machine containing the 6x250Gb disks
and with the 6x400GB USB disks plugged into it and am in the process of
copying all the data from the 8x500Gb disks onto a ZFS file system made
up of the 6x250GB drives (raidz2) and 6x400GB (also raidz2). I will then
recommission the machine containing the 8x500GB using OpenSolaris and
create a zpool from the 8x500GB disks (again, raidz2) and copy all the
data back.

Once this is all done, the 6x250GB drives will be used for general
storage, in particular, I will export volumes as iSCSI mounts to be used
by yet another server as disk for xen guests.

I'll then use the 6x400Gb disks as a pure library backup, as well as the
tape backup I take.

So, there's quite a bit going on! :)

Oh, I've got a couple of those too!
