What I'm not doing is saving the MP3s anywhere else but my player--it's another 80GB of disk space on top of the 400GB of FLAC files. I do back up the FLAC to another 500GB drive, and I have the server in RAID 1 so it's redundant as well.
So if I have to do something with the player, I'll have to reencode all over again.
