Yep I've never quite figured that one.  Would have thought a Clear &
rescan would delete the cache but has never worked for me.

Try (manually) deleting the slimserver database cache file and then
restart slimserver. Has always worked for me.

As for your other problem I have always found the route you are taking
is the easiest way to debug: i.e. start with a small sample directory &
see if that behaves as you'd expect first, then once sorted switch back
to the complete database.
