My 8553 FLAC files take up 237GB. By comparison, 10018 MP3's fit into 54GB. 1925 total albums...but not exactly sure on ratio of FLAC to MP3 albums. If it's the same as the ratio of FLAC files MP3 files, that would work out at about 886 FLAC albums giving 267MB per album.
Given the price of hard disks nowadays, I'd be going for about 400-500GB. I think that's also about the sweet spot in terms of $/GB. If you're going to cut all your CD's to FLAC, remember the investment in time will mean a lot compared with the actual price of a new drive. So make sure you buy TWO disks, or have another option for keeping a back-up.
