Hey Jim,
I think we need more info. How far down the Accurate Rip options tree
did you go? I have only been using dBpoweramp for a week (was using
EAC) but I have noticed a direct speed issue linked to whether the CD
is in the accurate rip stats already or not. If its in the library the
ripper seems to rip faster knowing that if the CRC is OK it does not
have to multi-pass and it does not have to slow down the drive to
ensure a quality rip. Just something I noticed which might not be
linked to cause and effect or what you are seeing. Also the quality of
the actual disk has a huge effect on the drive speed. Even a clean
brand new disk can have surface flaws that allow it to play fine in a
CDP but cause the ripper to slow down. The reason for this is because
your CD player has build in error correction plus error make over.
CD-ROM drives are not playing music so they have no error correction
while ripping. Hold the two CDs you just ripped up to a light. Does one
have more pin holes then the other one? Of course if the disk has a
complete or dark title mask, you will not be able to determine how many
pin holes are on the CD (but believe me that they are there). There is
no such thing as a perfectly clean vacuum.
