I did just a few albums at a time, no more than about 100 tracks. It took awhile. I was reading from a Windows-formatted USB drive as well, but that didn't seem to slow things down any. You might try dismounting the drive, rebooting and remounting it. Mine ran into some issues (very slow data transfer), I think because I just unplugged it without dismounting. The reboot seemed to solve the problem.
