Hi all.Before upgrading to VISTA I used to handle my music as follows. Note -- I DON'T buy music from download store (itunes etc) as I prefer totally UMCOMPRESSED music which I can then do what I like with. I'm not a big fan of lossy MP3's especially at lowish bit rates like 128 kbs (but that's another story)
1) Rip CD to FLAC with Winamp. Now for transferring to a music device that doesn't handle flac I do the following 2) Burn the FLAC tracks I want to an "Image" audio CD with NERO. 3) using the DRIVE image tool mount this "Virtual" CD as a "CD". The computer then thinks it's a real CD and you can then transfer CD music to your device as you would when ripping a "Real" CD. This worked brilliantly in Windows XP - but in VISTA Winamp can never find the FLAC converter and NERO doesn't have the "Virtual Drive" image tool any more. True I can use a combination of Alcohol 52 (the free version), Dbpoweramp and Nero but this gets messy having to use 3 programs. Currently I'm running a Windows XP as a virtual machine on Vmware under Vista but I'd really like 1 single program on VISTA that does ALL THESE Rips CD's to FLAC, Burns Image ISO's (most Windows CD software I've seen apart from Nero burns "Real physical CD's" and not ISO's) and also allows you then to mount the ISO as a "virtual CD". If I didn't HAVE to use Windows for a lot of work applications I'd switch to Linux I think. Vista Ugh !!!
