Latest FLAC CODEC is very good. I like using dBpowerAmp Reference 13.1 to rip with. IMHO the best compromise (and it is a compromise) is to use compression setting 5. There is hardly any space gained by using a higher number (especially with how cheap large harddrives are today) and the speed factor of everything goes up! Tagging is a personal thing and very hard to give advice on. I tag using the WIKI examples when it comes to classical music. For modern group/artist music, I use Artist/Album/Song Title and I have all my music on its own set of drives under the directory Music with a subdirectory for each artist with subdirectories under the Artist for each Album. I also don't do multiple disks. As an example, the Beach Boys Greatest hits comes on 3 CDs and I have it ripped as song 1 through 36 of disk 1. That way only one album cover shows up in SC and on my SBC instead of BBG disk 1, BBG disk 2, and BBG disk 3. This IMO really help one scan their collection is one has a ton of CDs and lots of multi-CD sets. -- iPhone *iPhone* 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/mephone) Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, Vandersteen Quatro, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: SB3, GFR-700HD, Thiel 2.3, Second Boom Home Office: SB3, NAD C370, two VSM-1 Home Gym: SB3, Parasound Vamp v.3, Thiel PowerPoint 1.2 Mobile: SB3, Audioengine A5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56657 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
