I said earlier on HH forum that Softsqueeze may trigger the server to
run in least common denominator mode (i.e. trigger flac to 16BIT
transcoding which softsqueeze requires). Especially if it's
synchronized. I suspect that softsqueeze in the mix has something to do
with it. It is an interesting catch though if true. Be nice to confirm
if that was the cause.

You also mentioned you were going back to a stock convert.conf file.
Not sure when or if you did that.

It's good your making progress getting to the bottom of it.
