I've recently added Artistsort tags to my flac and mp3 collection.

Most artists are now sorted correctly. There are some anomalies though,
which I think are down to having artists guesting on albums.

Example 1: All Albums by The Band were appearing under "D" with Bob
Dylan. This was due to "The Basement Tapes" an album that I had tagged
as Album Artist=Bob Dylan with Artist tags as either "Bob Dylan; The
Band" or "The Band" depending upon the track. I changed the Artist tags
to just Bob Dylan - not what I wanted, but it had the result of moving
all The Band's albums back to their proper place in "B".

Example 2: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John (all tracks tagged
as Elton John and no other guest artist) appears under "N" in amongst
the Randy Newman albums. I do have a Randy Newman album which features
Elton John on some tracks (Artist=Randy Newman;Elton John") with the
Artistsort tag set to "Newman, Randy".

I'm assuming that somehow SC is scanning the library and the first time
it finds an artist in the ARTIST tag it files it under whatever it finds
in the ARTISTSORT tag. If this is the case, I think I need to remove the
ARTISTSORT tag from all tracks that have multiple artists.

Q1: Does this sound logical?
Q2: Anybody have a quickish way to do this in mp3tag?

Thanks,

M.
