>This is what I expected. But it does not work. The ARTIST will not show >up, only ALBUMARTIST. So, either this behavior is as expected for SC or >there is a bug. > A compilation album effectively looks the same as an album with guest artists (an album containing songs with an album artist tag); but it has an album artist of "Various Artists" (unless an album artist tag is added to override this default album artist name).
I think SC used to hold Artists on compilation albums with "track artist" contributor role, the same as artists on albums that have an album artist tag. However, I think this was changed a while back such that a compilation album without an album artist tag has artist contributor roles; not sure why. It does seem strange that there is a difference; whenever there is an album artist, the artists performing on the track should be track artists, not artists, in my opinion. I thought that the "List compilation albums under each artist/Group compilation albums together" setting effectively decided whether to display track artists or not in the list. It appears that track artists are never displayed, so it must use a different logic. >BTW what is also strange with ALBUMARTIST: I would like to see it in >the display and changed the track format accordingly, e.g. >TRACKNUM. TITLE by ARTIST & ALBUMARTIST > SC is geared up to display performing artists or bands in song context, and album artist for album context. A song has performing artists; it's the album that has an album artist. A song is performed by ARTIST, whilst an album is performed by ALBUMARTIST. When playing a song, properties of the song are displayed, not really properties of the album. (If you want to display ALBUMARTIST, it may be possible if you install CUSTOMSCAN, as this defines additional format tags that you can use in the now playing format string). _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
