>But I think, I do not agree with the standard behavior for albums >having ALBUMARTIST set. Even if I have an album with guests in a track >I would of course like to see the album artist and the guest when >browsing the artists list. > Well, I think that is a minority case - most people don't want too many artists in the artist list. I have 775 artists in my Browse Artists list. If it were to include ALL artists (even artists that only appear on compilation albums or only as guests on regular albums by another artist), I'd have 2490 artists to wade through. I'd normally browse compilation albums to play those, or search for an artist name.
i.e. with compilation albums, if the Music Library setting "List compilation albums under each artist" is chosen, artists that appear on compilation albums are listed in Browse Artists. I agree that "track artists" is a bit strange, and it's use for guest artists on albums with an album artist means that "List compilation albums under each artist" doesn't work. But that issue can be bypassed by setting a COMPILATION=0 tag on such albums. >I would like this list to contain artists, >album artists and track artist (BTW it contains already BAND, COMPOSER >and CONDUCTOR and may be others I don't know). > If you want different ways of browsing your library, I suggest you install a plugin called CustomBrowse. This can be configured to show a "All Artists" menu. >I just figured out a nice puzzle for setting the title string which I >see in the playlist: >1) a track with album artist (in tag ALBUMARTIST) and guest (in tag >ARTIST), the two are of equal importance e.g. a duet >=> TRACKNUM. TITLE by ALBUMARTIST & ARTIST > I think I see what you are doing wrong now. For a duet, you should be settng two ARTIST tags. You would then also set an ALBUMARTIST tag for the artist that is the main contributor to the album. Then "TRACKNUM. TITLE by ARTIST" would list both artists on the song (both would actually be "track artists").
