I really appreciate you trying to help! I may have more than one
problem, but I just identified playlists as a definite cause of
duplicates for me. Here's the info:

1. I have flac files that were ripped using dbpoweramp
2. I have playlists that were created in MediaMonkey, which is also the
program I use to edit tags.
3. The playlists are exported to my server and I point squeezecenter to
them

I just went into MediaMonkey and added a song to a playlist. Then I
exported the playlist and got SC to scan for it. When I then used SC to
navigate to the album where the song was from there are now TWO copies
of the song listed (when there used to be just one).

I don't know if this is the cause of all of my duplication, but it
could be the cause of a lot since MediaMonkey does automatic playlist
building.

In MediaMonkey if I select "properties" for a song on a playlist (which
is where I normally edit tags) I see a tab for "Classification", and
there is a playlist section where it lists what playlists the song is
on.

I thought that a lot of people use MediaMonkey to make playlists for
Squeezecenter, so I'm surprised to have a problem like this. The
duplications are really annoying, so I'll be really grateful for any
tips.

MediaMonkey doesn't create duplicates of the songs in the album views
they show.

Thanks so much!
