For ARTISTSORT, I believe that ANY tracks for a particular artist which has an ARTISTSORT tag can affect ALL the tracks for that artist. As an example, I added ARTISTSORT to my tracks to sort by Lastname, Firstname. Then, I added additional tracks by one of the artists I already had, but neglected to add the ARTISTSORT tags, but sorting for this new album used the ARTISTSORT tag from other album by that artist. I guess what I'm saying is that you need to check for ARTISTSORT on ALL of the tracks by a given artist. Using something like mp3tag, you can update the ARTISTSORT tag for all tracks by a given artist pretty easily - or you can create some rules (actions?) to create ARTISTSORT tags based on ARTIST tag, for example, that would be correct for most of your tracks.
