Robin Bowes' flac2mp3 script sounds like a great solution to maintain an mp3 mirror of my flac library, and after some experimentation, I have managed to get it to work on my PC running Windows XP (with ActivePerl 5.8.9, flac2mp3 v0.2.7) when the flac files are on the PC and I am outputting to the PC. (It's a great tool - thanks!)
But my real library is on a headless linux server attached to my home network along with the windows PC, and when I try to use a folder on the linux server as the input data folder for the flac2mp3 script on my PC, I get the following error messages: --- C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\>"c:\program files\dmus\flac2mp3-0.2.\flac2mp3.pl" "\\Ripserver\music\Berlioz" "c:\music on c\mp33" Processing directory: \\Ripserver\music\Berlioz 17 flac files found. Sorting...done. Processing "Requiem, Op. 5 [Davis] (Disc 1)/01 - Requiem - Kyrie.flac" '\\Ripserver\music\Berlioz' CMD.EXE was started with the above path as the current directory. UNC paths are not supported. Defaulting to Windows directory. 01 - Requiem - Kyrie.flac: ERROR initializing decoder init status = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_INIT_STATUS_ERROR_OPENING_FILE An error occurred opening the input file; it is likely that it does not exist or is not readable. Assuming raw pcm input file --- The error repeats then for each flac file. So it seems the script can find the files on the networked linux server, but can't process them. Is there some setting or script edit that I can change to fix this? I'm a linux novice and prefer not to run the script itself on the linux server (and would need to output it anyway to an external USB drive.) I appreciate any suggestions.
