i use EAC to rip and lame to compress.

i use a CBR of 256, joint stereo, and i put:

-q 1

as an "extra" command line option.  it is a quality of encoding
setting, and the range is 0 to 10 with 0 being the best, but impossibly
slow.  i find 1 to be quick enough.

also, lame writes a RG value into the lame header, not the id3 tags,
and i don't think any normal program out there can even read lame
headers, (or at least read and use the RG info in them).  so its really
up to you if you want it calculated and written or not.
