But SBS has no way of knowing that they come from the same CD. It is
perfectly possible -- even normal -- to have all tracks from multiple
disc albums in the same folder, with the same album tags. As you
surmise, if SBS is set to treat multi disc sets as multiple albums then
it has to use the disc tag in conjunction with the album tag to
determine which tracks go on which "albums", where in this case
album=disc because of the multi-disc album setting. In that case,
<blank> is another discrete value just like 1/1, 1/3, 2/3, etc. and all
of the tracks with album=foo and track=<blank> should be grouped as one
album, those with album=foo and track=1/2 as another album, etc. I don't
see why one should assume that <blank>=first disc, since it could just
as easily be from the last disc, or disc 3/5.

I suppose that 1/1 could be treated as a special case, because 1/1
implies that it's *not* a multiple disc album to begin with (assuming
that the 1/1 tag is correct).
