I am paranoid about losing the music and pictures. Three copies, active disk, backup1 local copied weekly and swapped for backup2 at my son's house (if there are changes)
As I have the CDs elsewhere it isn't the music ripping, but my photo library lots and lots of Nikon NEF files and edit stuff, that is really irreplaceable. I think people should always consider 'offsite' backup options. And great care when making a backup, it would be easy in my case to have three copies of rubbish. I got close once when retagging my old Apple Lossless files, something caused lots of minor corruptions. Moved to FLAC and feel happier.
