Just my opinion and YMMV, but don't even think about doing that, much less type it! FLAC is a great standard that can be converted to just about anything. iTunes can't screw with the file type and hose all the work you have done. It is easy to find/fix any issues with great programs like MP3Tag and dBpowerAmp.
I don't know if it is just because I hate iTunes because its designed so even people that shouldn't be allowed near a computer can even use it or because I hate how one wrong click can hose everything one has done, but I still don't see a single reason to use iTunes with Squeezebox. I only use iTunes because one is forced to if one owns an iPhone.
