I second the Media Monkey recommendation.  In addition to being an
excellent player (never skips or cuts out), it has some very powerful
tagging functions via user developed scripts.  'Tagging
Inconsistencies' and 'RegExp Find and Replace' are two that I find
almost indispensable. The built-in auto-organize function is another
tool I use with every CD I rip.

Playlists (either static or auto playlists) can be exported to .m3u
files that can be scanned directly into Squeezebox server.

It has built-in ripping, but I find dBpoweramp much better (for ripping
and for initial metadata retrieval).
