VirusKiller You do not understand what dither is. You probably refer to adding random noise to the samples, but this is ain't dithering.
BTW, you can turn dithering on and off in SOX (-D option, I think), the bug in SOX was that they improperly calculated output sample size. What Meridian paper refers to in 'arithmetic operations which modify a sample result in an increase in the number of bits representing the output result; in a fixed channel size, this can therefore lead to truncation or quantisation effects' I think is simply overflow, or clipping...
