Sorted now - a combination of a HDTracks bug and my not thinking of trying to chance the file extension... from HD tracks customer support:
"This is actually due to a bug on the site which we are currently working to correct. You can correct the problem yourself though by simply renaming the file extension of the files from .9624 to .flac" Ho hum! Now to listen to them ...
