I now use dBpoweramp for all my ripping. I had been using WMP, ripping to WMA lossless, and then used dBp to do the same. I've since switched to FLAC, but haven't bothered to convert the WMA lossless files to FLAC. WMAlossless is a perfectly good format.
I particularly like the dBp capacity to rip to two separate files in separate locations (lossless flac and high-end lossy mp3 in my case) at the same time. I think dBp does a pretty good job on tagging, and mostly gets it right. It is very important to review the tags before ripping, though. Much easier to adjust the tags at that point than after the fact. I sometimes find that the tags dBp finds don't include composer, or have an odd genre tag. The artist and album artist tags sometime need adjustment, too. Very occasionally no album art is found, and dBp makes it easy to add it at ripping. I use MP3 Tag for all after-the-fact adjustments. In terms of finding album art on a case by case basis, I do use Amazon, but that doesn't always work. I find that a Google image search on the album name often produces images in a variety of sizes, giving me some flexibility. I've not used any of the batch album art applications.
