It's clear when there is a problem, and in most cases it's clear that tags need to be edited for consistency. It's probably simplified the scanner/browsing code. What you see in your tags is what you get in the tag editor, other media players, and now SBS. As iTunes doesn't do any trimming of trailing spaces (but maybe leading spaces), it now means that anyone using iTunes plugin to import music library from iTunes will have matching content? And there could well be artists that differ only in case (I think in the original thread, someone came up with some good examples).
