I've ripped vinyl before straight to the PC rather than using one of
these programs, then manually cleaned them using Sound Forge. The
problem, apart from it being a slow process, is that the best results
(and still far from perfect) I've achieved came when I went though the
wav file and removed noise and clicks manually. Applying the filters
within Sound Forge always seemed to affect the music in some way,
though I wasn't an expert with the software by any means.

I would much rather use one of these automatic programs - if they
actually worked well. Has anyone used them with good results, compared
to manual editing? I should add the the copy of Sound Forge I have is
quite old and hasn't been updated for years.
