Some other music software makes greater use of ALBUMARTIST.
The two cases where I find ALBUMARTIST most useful are (1) albums where an ARTIST has a lot of guest artists (e.g., Ray Charles' "Genius Loves Company" album of duets), and (2) tribute albums (e.g., "Going Driftless", a tribute to Greg Brown). In those cases I would fill the ARTIST tag for each track with the artist(s) who actually perform on that track, and the ALBUMARTIST tag with Ray Charles and Greg Brown, respectively. And I don't want to overload you, but in the interests of getting things right, note that FLAC tagging easily accommodates multiple entries for the same tag.
