90% of my 900-ish CDs were ripped 6 or 7 years ago, when the "state of
the art" seemed to be 200x200 album art (or maybe that was an artifact
of the ripping tool I used at the time, Windows Media Player). Newer
CDs I've acquired, and rip with dBpoweramp, are getting 500x500 album
art.

Is there any relatively simple way to update the 200x200 art to higher
resolution? Some of the available tools seem to search for art only
where art is missing ... others seem to require intensely manual
processes ... is there anything available that would at least partially
automate the process of finding and updating my album art?

I would like some form of manual intervention, in that I don't want to
end up goofing up my files with the wrong artwork ... at the same time
I'd like to automate as much of the process as is practical.
