Hi,

Before I start a lengthy job of checking and updating my entire
collection I thought it would be best to ask what do you guys do to
make the most of the Genre tag?

Keep it simple or complex? Develop your own classification or use
official ones?

I was hoping to use LMS capabilities for multiple genres. I tested it
and it seems to work OK using // as a seperator.

My current Genre tags are just those automatically generated using
dBPoweramp. I was planning on using Discogs to cross check them but I
am not sure how to proceed because Discogs use Genre and Style
classifications.

Here are few examples:

ALBUM ARTIST...ALBUM...GENRE...STYLE
Aphex Twin...26 Mixes for Cash...Electronic...IDM, Experimental,
Ambient
Lemon Jelly...'64-'95...Electronic...Leftfield, Downtempo, Tech House
Enya...A Day Without Rain...Electronic...Modern Classical, Ambient
Leftfield...A Final Hit, Greatest Hits...Electronic...Techno,
Downtempo, Ambient
Underworld...A Hundred Days Off...Electronic...House
Snow Patrol...A Hundred Million Suns...Rock...Pop Rock, Indie Rock

The Genre 'Electronic' would cover most of my collection, so it will
not be all that useful for music playback. Style looks to be a bit too
detailed..........but maybe its worth the effort to use these instead.

What do ????? Not bother with Genre at all or be anal and get it
sorted???

Opinions are very welcome before I proceed further.

Thanks in advance. Mark.
