I basically do the same. I once had too many, but the more detail you get, the more genres certain music can fall in and/or the more often you end up with genres that may only have one or two entries. I think I have less than 20 genres. 95% of my music has only one genre, but in the case of Holiday Music, Bootlegs, etc. I've gone with multiple genres to easily exclude a genre. Of course Bootlegs aren't necessarily a genre, but I'm not concerned about technicalities. Genre tags help group music for reasons besides specific genre. I do generally enjoy the odd grouping of random tracks, so I rarely use genres for much other than excluding holiday music and bootlegs from my random lists. I don't worry about sub categorizing genres in the genre tags as rock is rock when I am listening. I have created a separate sub-genre field, but I really don't make use of it. It mostly comes into play for the type of music that can defy genre classification (or cross-over). This happens a bit with music that is classified as Alt-Country or Fusion (Jazz and Rock), etc. With LMS, I can only take advantage of this custom tag using Custom Scan and Custom Browse. -- emalvick ------------------------------------------------------------------------ emalvick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93760 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
