Same problem as original poster. I want to move/rename my mp3 files without losing trackstat data. I'm using puddletag to attach mbrainz_track_id where available, and that's working great. Unfortunately I'm left with about 15% of my files that MusicBrainz doesn't know.
I've tried to use human readable fake IDs containing album name and track number etc, so they are immediately recognisable as fake. Unfortunately these IDs are ignored, so it seems there are some constraints on the IDs that trackstat is checking.
