Hello, I got in the habit of always filling out the "album artist" field and removing the compilation field when I rip a cd.
For album artist to ensure something and to not use what I consider useless( I try not to use unknown or various artists) I might use the music publisher or something else that is related to the cd. Is this a waste of time? I noticed that from meta data that gets pulled in from the usual sources (music brainz, gracenote etc) sometimes album artist is blank and sometimes the other extreme, I have seen album artist filled in with the word "unknown" or "Various Artists" Suppose there is an album in which each song has a different artist, album artist is left blank and the compilation field is left out.
