I just bought and ripped Fleetwood Mac’s debut album titled “Fleetwood
Mac”. This is the 1968 album (from the Peter Green era). I already
had the 1975 album also titled “Fleetwood Mac” so I put the debut album
in a folder named “Fleetwood Mac (1968)”.

Knowing about the greatest hits logic (I have multiple albums named
“Greatest Hits” which all display as separate albums), I expected LMS to
present two different albums named “Fleetwood Mac”. What I got was two
alums merged into one, just as the OP had.

I know this would be the most difficult case study for LMS to get
correct (the artist, album artist, and album title are all the same),
but the fact the two albums were in separate folders should have
indicated they were intended to be displayed as separate albums. Well
if I understand the intent of the greatest hits logic correctly it
should have displayed as two albums.

I was reluctant to rename the album because I know the Smart Mix plugin
uses the tags to create mixes. In the end I caved and re-titled the
1968 album to “Fleetwood Mac (1968)” and LMS displayed two different
albums. Smart Mix also sees this album, so I guess that plugin uses
artist and track tags, not the album tag?

By the way, my folder structure is
Vortexbox/files/music/flac/artist/album/track
