I assume the server just resizes them to display in the web interface
etc. You generally do this with images on websites because you can't
rely on them looking any good when the browsers scales them. Plus if all
you want to display on the web page is a very small 50x50 image and
you've only got a single 1500x1500 px image for artwork, it's got to
download the whole thing rather than the tiny image which it needs.
