I don't believe you can. LMS wouldn't use them in any case. It starts
with cover.jpg (or folder.jpg or an embedded cover) and creates the
different sized copies and caches them.

If you really want to do so, there _is_ a setting to allow you to
disable the pre-caching of resized images during scanning. See the web
interface's Settings > Options > Advanced > Performance > Artwork
Pre-caching. However, the pre-caching is designed to speed up the
various user interfaces, so unless this activity is really slowing down
your library scanning, I wouldn't disable it.

One thing, however (I'm not positive, maybe someone else could say for
certain): By having embedded covers in every file, I believe LMS will
use the embedded image instead of cover.jpg, so you're forcing LMS to
resize and pre-cache an image for every single audio track, rather than
having to do only one image per folder. If I'm correct, you could reduce
the number of images that LMS resizes and caches probably by a factor of
10 or more.
