xargs is new to me, but looks very useful, and the -P option seems like it will allow me to run multiple oggenc jobs in parallel on different cores - is that right? I'll keep that in mind if I have to do this conversion again - for now I've had to put this aside till the end of the week, so I've left the Pi running and it should have finished by the time I get back to it. I'm struggling to see a situation where a new version of the flac file would have a modification date earlier than a previous ogg version.
