Would they have paid attention if you'd said that they don't have permission
to use the perl port because there's a newer one here...?

AU before. IIRC it was AU who had their incoming ftp directory world
readable. Whoever it was I got a sneak preview by downloading stuff that was
being submitted]

I spent most of Sunday attacking IO::Seekable in the core, so didn't
actually get any further with sfio on RISC OS (it all compiles. just
doesn't pass all its tests, and I want to know why for each)
